Domains. | https://www.blogsaays.com/ |
Having a personalized domain for our website has several advantages: it acquires a professional image, gives credibility to users, protects the name of the site on the Internet and if it is short you allow them to access more easily because it is easier to remember. That is why before buying a domain you must know certain things and clear all the doubts you have.
What is the best extension for me?
Previously, the domain with .com termination was specific for commercial companies, however at present this is no longer necessary. Being the most known extension of the world, it is the most used and therefore the least available, so maybe if the name you had thought for your website is creative enough and someone did not think about it before you, you could register it. Currently the three most used extensions in the world are:
.com | For commercial companies.
.net | For internet service providers
.org | For non-profit organizations.
Additionally there are some other extensions with great growth during the last years.
.xyz | It became very common since Google acquired one.
.info | Thought for information sites.
.ws | Refers to WebSite.
The best extensions for your website or blog are definitely among the first three shown above, however if you do not find availability of the name you want you will have to think of some other extension among the hundreds that currently exist.
The correct thing would be to select the extension according to the theme or content of your website or blog, also if you decide to use a third level domain you should keep in mind that these are only designed to refer to users of the same country, for example:. com.mx (for Mexico).
How to choose the name?
Actually, this is a difficult decision, because as we told you, it is very possible that the name you have thought is already registered, however to think of one you will have to take into account these points:
- Make it very easy to remember.
- That is not formed by more than 3 words, if it can be 1, much better!
- Avoid the use of hyphens and numbers.
- That the name refers to the content.
- It should not be confusing when writing or pronouncing it.
What should I do if the domain name is already registered?
Perhaps the best option is to try to negotiate personally with the owner of the domain, in most cases if the domain hosts a website, you could find a contact form by which you can inform the owner that you are interested in buying the domain. This is the cheapest way you can find when it comes to buying registered domains.
If the domain has no assigned website or can not find any way to contact the owner, you could try using the Whois tool to find the email address or the telephone number with which the domain is registered, this will only be possible if the owner does not have active the privacy service for domains.
If none of the above worked for you to contact the current owner of the domain, you could contract a third party service (Sedo) so that they try to contact the owner and negotiate for you the purchase of the domain, however this option is the most expensive because only by the simple fact of hiring a company you have to pay for the negotiation, and if the purchase is made you will have to pay a commission to the company.
As a last option, you could try to create a name similar to the one you initially wanted or perhaps change the extension of it.
